About the role

Climate Central seeks an effective Operations Coordinator to support our Finance and Administration department and overall organizational operations. This position will report to our Vice President for Administration. The ideal candidate for this role has a successful track record of juggling competing priorities, builds strong relationships virtually and in person, communicates clearly and effectively, and enjoys using technology to work more efficiently.

Support Finance and Administration Department (50%)

  • Support project management for the department, owning assigned project roles and tracking departmental goals and deadlines
  • Fill an essential role in staff hiring by:
    • Serving as the HR liaison with candidates, communicating about the hiring process
    • Scheduling candidate phone screens, interviews, and hiring committee meetings
    • Supporting candidate recruitment and maintain job listings
    • Coordinating logistics for staff onboarding
  • Provide general human resources support, including responding to staff requests, tracking leaves, and coordinating onboarding and offboarding processes
  • Support the department’s efforts to reorganize and digitize files, including during a transition in Accounting software
  • Assist the VP for Administration with state and local government compliance filings and agreements
  • Provide administrative support for contracts and other document preparation
  • Organize, maintain, and update HR, administration, and financial records, as needed

Manage Internal Communications (25%)

  • Play a critical role in Climate Central’s knowledge management and internal communications by adding, updating, and maintaining content on the internal wiki
  • Maintain content on the organization’s shared Google Drive, internal administrative records, and external portals
  • Champion Climate Central’s internal communications norms and continue to refine the ways we communicate and collaborate in a remote environment

Provide General Operations Support (25%)

  • Coordinate staff events and convenings, including scheduling and logistics (agenda, communications, location, travel, meals, materials, etc.)
  • Support external vendor management, including onboarding and supporting invoice tracking
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency

Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience providing operational support in nonprofit organizations, preferably in a remote work setting.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with confidential HR information and financial files preferred.
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills – able to juggle multiple streams of work and maintain a relentless attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills – a strong writer and clear, direct communicator who keeps others in the loop and can effectively engage with colleagues and external parties. 
  • Ability to work independently, anticipate needs, and proactively solve problems with minimal supervision.
  • High level of discretion, integrity, and judgment when dealing with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills; exhibits good judgment; able to learn and pivot quickly
  • Skilled relationship builder – able to form warm, productive relationships with colleagues at all levels of the organization
  • High level of proficiency in office productivity software (e.g., Google Workspace, Adobe, Microsoft Office Suite), including making compelling visual presentations; familiarity with virtual meeting tools (e.g., Zoom, Teams); experience with accounting software, Salesforce, and/or Canva preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, human resources, finance, or a related field is strongly preferred.

Compensation: The expected base salary range for this position is $60,000-70,000. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Climate Central offers generous benefits including:

Location and employment eligibility: This position can be mostly remote, in accordance with Climate Central organizational policy. Presence at headquarters or other U.S.-based locations is required for periodic team and organizational meetings, events and convenings. Climate Central’s headquarters are in Princeton, N.J.
